Bike Riders – Be Warned About Increased Penalties For Bicycle Offences

Increase in Fines

There will be a dramatic increase in fines here in NSW for bicycle riders who breach the following offences:

  • Not wear helmet, current fine $71. This will increase to $319.
  • Not stopping at a red light, was $71. This will increase to $425.
  • Riding your bike in a dangerous manner, was $71. This will increase to $425.
  • Holding onto a moving vehicle, was $71. This will increase to $319.
  • Failing to stop at a pedestrian crossing, was $71. Increased to $425.
  • Riding a bicycle at night without lights, was $71. Increased to $106.

Bike riders – if you are injured by a motor vehicle here in NSW, you may have a CTP claim against the motor vehicle’s greenslip insurer.

Even if you have been guilty of one of the above offences and have been fined, if you have been injured by a motor vehicle, you may still have a claim.
