Huge thanks to Andrew Woo who helped us with our health waiver. I live in QLD with my Australian partner. My partner visa application was refused due to medical condition - we found out on the medical tests that I have HIV. We applied for the health waiver and got in contact with one of the well-known migration agents. Unfortunately we failed the waiver, it was because our previous agent did not take it seriously enough and lots of evidence was missing to support our case. We tried to look for another immigration lawyer but many times they would not even reply to our emails or turned us down in other ways. Dear Andrew, I wish to thank you for all your work involved in the processing of my application for permanent residency. When we first met to discuss my case after previously having dealt with an unscrupulous migration agent, you advised that it would be a very challenging one considering the fact that I had been unlawful for almost 20 years and there was no documentary evidence to support my relationship with my partner of 10 years. On top of that, I was recently diagnosed with a chronic pulmonary disease and was relying upon oxygen mask to help with breathing. My partner and I moved to Australia in 2008. I had obtained a job as a medical specialist and was granted a (457) business visa. After we decided to stay longer than a “few years” I obtained my Australian fellowship to the medical college. This made us eligible to obtain a permanent residency. As my partner is HIV+ we were aware that we would not satisfy the required health requirement and that we needed a “health waiver”. Obtaining a permanent residency would not be a straightforward process. Via Positive People we obtained a list with Lawyers who specialise in immigration law i.e. health waivers. We checked several websites, but basically randomly picked one. “Taylor and Scott” it was. During a free consultation with their immigration agent Andrew Woo the whole procedure was discussed with us: the process itself, possible obstacles, the health waiver, our chance of obtaining permanent residency, duration and costs. As Andrew impressed us to be very knowledgeable and as he had the backing of a law firm (in case things didn’t work out the way we expect it would be), we decided to proceed with Andrew as our immigration agent. During the whole process Andrew’s knowledge, experience and his contacts with the department of immigration have been of incredible value. At every hurdle we had to take he provided us advice and clear instruction. The health waiver he wrote on our behalf was very professional and of a quality we would not have been able to do ourselves. While at times we had enough of all the bureaucracy, Andrew kept on going and his responses remained prompt up to the last moment. (Does he ever have a day off?). Last week we obtained our permanent residency. It had worked out completely as Andrew had predicted. He had been able to change the whole process into a straightforward process after all.
