Asbestos Continues Its Deadly Attack On Unsuspecting Victims
Mr. Fluffy Insulation -Don’t let this innocent-sounding name fool you.
Asbestos is one of the most dangerous insulation products ever produced. It is a leading cause of terminal lung cancer and other exposure-related diseases. And, unfortunately, Australia has the highest per-capita rate of mesothelioma in the world.
“Mr. Fluffy,” the infamous name for a “snowy-like” asbestos insulation product, was used as insulation in the 60s and 70s in many homes in NSW and ACT. Then however, some of the first cases linking asbestos exposure in the home to mesothelioma originated in neighbourhoods where Mr. Fluffy brand insulation was used.
Asbestos is a component of ceiling insulation and cement siding, widely used in homes and commercial buildings. While loose-fill asbestos insulation is no longer used without proper protection, it is still present in ceilings and walls in some older homes. It was also used in other building products sold to contractors, ‘do-it-yourselfers’ and home handy men.
Australians Still Being Diagnosed With Lung Cancer From Asbestos Exposure
There are three ways you may have been exposed to asbestos:
- Working in a factory or mine. Miners or factory workers were the first wave of people to develop lung cancer and mesothelioma because of their concentrated exposure to the toxic material.
- Installing or fabricating construction materials. A second wave of victims surfaced a bit later. These people did not have the same level of concentrated and prolonged exposure as the first group. Nonetheless, they developed mesothelioma from working with products on construction sites or on home-improvement projects.
- Unknowingly inhaling particles causing dust disease. This is the group of people currently being diagnosed with some type of lung cancer or mesothelioma. You might think of them as the silent victims. They washed the clothing of their factory-working spouses or swept the factory floors after work stopped for the day. They breathed the airy asbestos particles that have escaped in homes insulated with Mr. Fluffy products or that floated off of clothing or were swept off of the floors or into the air from factories near by.
Mesothelioma Can Take Decades To Develop After Exposure
It is a very slow-growing cancer in the lining of the lungs. In fact, most people can’t recall exactly when they were first exposed to asbestos.
Yet, during the following 20-50 years, a speck of asbestos could be slowly killing you.
If you have ever been exposed to asbestos, or have recently been diagnosed with lung cancer or mesothelioma, you may wish to consult with attorney, Ivan Simic, about your right to compensation.
For years, Mr. Simic has been helping people obtain the compensation they deserve so that they can rest assured that their families will be taken care of. Once a person has been diagnosed with Mesothelioma, the disease progresses rapidly.
